Research
Mathematicians at UC Santa Cruz advance our understanding of mathematics—both for its intrinsic beauty and in connection to the sciences. Our research strengths span a wide range of areas, including representation theory, geometric group theory, algebraic geometry, algebraic topology, Riemannian geometry, differential equations, random matrices, mathematical physics, Hamiltonian dynamics, vertex operator algebras, and number theory.
Our department fosters a dynamic and collaborative research environment that includes faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and visiting researchers. Regular seminars and colloquia are central to this community, providing a forum for sharing ideas, presenting new results, and building connections across disciplines and institutions.
