Lower Division Undergraduate Courses have course numbers less than 100. These courses fulfill general education and/or major requirements. Math 2 and 3 are developmental math courses preparing students for calculus and other courses. The main calculus courses are two-quarter sequences: Math 11A+B, 16A+B, 19A+B, 20A+B. Multivariable calculus courses are the one-quarter 22, and two-quarter sequence 23A+B. Math 21 (Linear Algebra) and Math 24 (Ordinary Differential Equations) are also needed for many majors.

Upper Division Undergraduate Courses are those with course numbers in the 100s. These classes are required for math majors, and/or have lower-division prerequisites. Math 100 (Introduction to Proof and Problem Solving) is the key course preparing students for other upper division courses. Other key courses for math majors are real analysis (105A) and modern algebra (111A).

Graduate Courses are those with course numbers in the 200s. The core graduate sequences include algebra (200, 201, 202), geometry (208, 209, 210), and analysis (204, 205, 206). Undergraduates, especially those pursuing graduate study, are strongly encouraged to take or audit any graduate course that interests them.
