In December 2024, 11 UCSC students participated in the Putnam exam. This is an undergraduate mathematics exam held in the US and Canada where thousands of students compete in topics such as calculus, linear algebra, modern algebra, real analysis, geometry, and others.
This year, 3,988 students from 477 institutions participated in the competition. The highest score was 90, the average score was approximately 8, and the median score was 2.
UCSC’s team ranked 98 among participating teams. Almost all team members scored above the median. Two members obtained perfect scores in one problem.
